Danielle has gotten frustrated with looking at the fountain at some point doing the week enough to walk other parts of the city canvas style to see if the rest of the world has disappeared crumbled or otherwise during her recent obsesesion, but eventually returns to the area as moth to flame
The city has changed in a tiny fashion, here and there, now and again - perhaps the rate of change is slower now, but it is hard to tell.
Dirk walks over to the fountain and puts a crudely carved duck decoy in it. "Ha! I want to fill the fountain with ducks.'
The weather changes suddenly, from a threat of rain to a cold threat of snow, and with it comes a whipping wind along Gateway Road. Tiny crystals of ice are blown with it, and the air smells of the sea despite apparently blowing over land. The duck decoy bobs and but is not blown over, then rights itself. The wind definitely lessens around the fountain and the multiple layers of protection on it.
Danielle waves to dirk and laughs at his putting the duck in the fountain " Hey I dubt the fountain will care about ducks one way or the oth..Then again"she peks up at the weather change and reflexively reaches out with her magic sense in the same way she sniffs the air with her nose as she starts in the direction of the gateway road
Dirk sighs and folds his arms. "Unicorn please help us. We need it."
Danielle rolls with advantage 1 at difficulty 20, using occult, magic sense.
The result is a success.
The clear feeling of ice magic tells Danielle a lot of what she needs to know - this wind blows directly from the Frozen Palace.
The cold wind brings with it a coach, driven by nobody, pulled by no-one. Pure translucent water-ice, it comes up the road towards the square, as if pulled at a smooth trot.
Dirk draws his sword m
Danielle blinks at the carriages arrival and waits a few minutes to see if anyone disembarks
The coach pulls up, then there is a little shift in its position, like a footman just jumped down. Frozen footprints appear on the ground as if someone is walking to open the door. It's an expensive ice coach - it has built-in steps that fold down..
Down them walks a woman in thick furs, putting out her hand to something invisible in midair - it could be the coachman's shoulder. She looks around, sees the fountain, and sees Dirk's sword. Her freeze could not be more literal. She just turns to ice.
Amethyst rolls with advantage 1 at difficulty 25, using occult, pattern meditation.
The result is a failure.
Danielle rolls with advantage 1 at difficulty 25, using occult, magic sense.
The result is a failure.
Dirk walks towards the coach since he's the impulsive one.
The occult senses that are open get the idea of something fleeing, but not what or how.
The coach creaks a little, nothing more.
Amy looks around, frowning a bit, as she arrives. "Uhm, hello?" she calls out. "Dirk, wait - what if they are friendly?"
Danielle is turn for a moment eyes fixed on the shocking transformation well other sense turn elsewhere. She echoes Amy's call with a raised voice as if calling at a distance "Hello, we mean no harm if you mean us none"
No sound from the coach. The wind has stopped. Nothing attacks Dirk.
*is torn
A light mist sinks from the coach, as if the warmth of the air around it, such little as there is, is being sucked out and turned to faint white streamers.
Dirk walks over and looks inside the coach. "Want to go for a ride?"
The coach creeeeaks. But the statue does not move. The big, shapely ice-cube just stands there. Dirk can plainly see that its insides are plushly decorated, and newly coated with delicate frost.
Amy gives Dirk a glance, and shakes her head negatively. "Me, No. not to a freezing ice place at any rate."
Danielle draws nearer to the frozen woman reaching out her magic senses to see if she can sense life or consciousness inside the frozen form. At least for the moment, she takes care not touch, though her hand reaches in the distance between with temptation "gimme a sec. we got ourselves a situation right in front of us"
There is nothing there for Danielle to see now. This might as well be just ice. It is a beautiful statue, but just a statue. Even now frost is settling onto the face, but the finest of the thin-spun hairs are melting. Amber's weather is cool, but not nearly as cold as it would need to be to preserve the coach and the woman untouched.
Even near to the coach, breath is visible in the air.
Amy is definitely a beach baby sort, which may be strange. However, she also steps forward with Danielle, eyeing the statue and the coach. "Please do let us know why you are here and who you are?" she calls out. She looks at the statue and notes, "It's melting - that can't be good."
The alarm on the face of the statue is clear up close. She was, until a few moments ago, a beautiful woman. Now she is a work of art in ice.
Dirk climbs into the coach and stares. "Hello, how are you?"
As Dirk gets in, the wheels give way...
Danielle rolls with advantage 1 at difficulty 15, using occult, sorcery.
The result is a success.
Amethyst rolls with advantage 1 at difficulty 15, using athletics, healing nature.
The result is a success.
Danielle rolls with advantage -1 at difficulty 15, using no talents or gifts.
The result is a success.
The wheels crumble on the side where Dirk gets in, sending the coach rocking, and it impacts on the statue, sending that flying in bits as it continues its fall. To Amethyst it is a simple matter of stepping out of the way quick-smart. Danielle is closer, and her options are moving away, or magic. Dirk, of course, is closest of all.
Danielle calls upon magic in a raw viceral and suddenway in an attempt to hold the carrige in place hands in front of her as if tring to shove the coach upward "Jump" she calls to dirk
As the coach is starting to fall, it lurches, pivoting away from Danielle, away from Amethyst, even away from Dirk, although it still went through the space where he was as he started mounting the huge carved-out and beautiful ice block.
Amy is quick on her feet, and she sidesteps, though she cannot help a squawk of "No!" at the statue goes flying in bits. Wide eyed, she adds, "That has to hurt!"
The beautiful face, the finely carved coat perfect down to the detailing of the threads, and the delicate hands in their gloves are just ice cubes now. The feet stay stuck to the ground, where they were before Danielle pushed the coach off.
Danielle cant help buy wince at thr unintended consequence of her action but she did stop the coach from toppling over for the moment "I'm not certain how much more i've got
The coach's other wheels break, and it settles onto the ground, too strong to break, but for a moment easy for Danielle to push away. Away from Dirk, away from herself. It's just ice. Nothing more.
Dirk rolls with advantage 0 at difficulty 15, using no talents or gifts and spending will.
The result is a success.
The thing that saved Dirk was the open door. Like a Buster Keaton perfect moment, he was in it as the coach slipped, and he was still in it as Danielle pushed the coach away. He is still where the door was a moment later, as a ton and more of ice crunches down a foot in front of him.
Amy waits until it looks like maybe it's safe and the ice has all stabilized before she runs over. "Dirk, are you okay?" she asks, concerned. She's trying to see if there's anything that has injured him. Alas for coach and statue, there's nothing she can do to help them.
Dirk says "ah What the Frack was that?"
Danielle hms "I don't know. was it a random act of a turbulant unstable reality or a deliberate act of malice to prevent that woman from reaching us"
Dirk says "yes?"
"or did we scare someone from reaching out to us, and they ran away?" Amy adds to the list of possibilities.
Amy nods to Dirk, glad to hear he is okay.
Dirk says "I just about pissed myself."
Danielle sighs "i definitely got a vague sensation of flight, which i hope we were not responsible for but it's entirely possible.. you were not the only one" she says to dirk
Dirk says "I want to be a cat. I used to be a cat. Amy gets to be a dragon but I can't be a cat?"
Amy stares at Dirk. "I don't know what you are talking about," she says. "I have never been a dragon."
Dirk says "You will be a purple dragon." He folds his arms.
Amy arches a brow, and then she shrugs, laughing a bit. "Well, maybe you'll be a cat too?" she offers. Mostly she probably doesn't believe him.
Even if there's that niggly memory about rescuing Garin.
Danielle hms I'm not certain amy can become a dragon at well just yet. Magic seems to reveal itself at moments of great need and with substantial effort. perhaps in a momeny of great danger. old abilities will manifest. Today reiterates that our environment is unpredictable and can go from benign to dangerous in seconds. i wasn't sure i could hold up that coach
Dirk says "You all have magic. I am missing sn arm."
Amy looks over to Danielle at her words and nods. "Dirk, I think if you are patient, and we keep working on things, then we might get back to being able to do similar things to what we used to do. By the way, did you know there's fog in the basement of the palace that we can clear? It feels to me - important somehow to clear it too."
Dirk nods.
