Probably some more scorpions

The fountain is weird. We all know that by now. We might explore why, or we might get attacked by 3 million tiny scorpions. Hard to tell. Come along and find out.

Danielle has moved from tracking activities of fountains to tracking activities of cultists and ocassionally people at large. She may be gaining reputation as the creepy woman who stares as she's been using pattern meditation and magic sense to get a read on just whom is connected to what. this has taken somewhat of a toll and she wears a look of someone whos been pulling allnighters but also the energy of someone whose had too much caffiene

Amy has been working at the hospital, doing her usual keeping things running, triaging and healing patients, and otherwise keeping busy. She's perhaps becoming known as a healer of skill, by this point. Right now, she's walking towards the fountain, with a bit of a spring in her step, on her way from the hospital up towards the inn.

Danielle rolls with advantage 1 at difficulty 20, using occult, pattern meditation.
The result is a success.

Dirk is stirring the fountain with his sword. He is seriously a grumble kitty today.

Danielle has, then, come across a few things. First of all there is some sort of conduit - probably water - bringing that feeling of the Pattern downhill somewhat. It surfaces at the fountain and at the standpipe. Second, there are several people who seem to be full of that burning belief that the preacher had - but in all of them it comes and goes. Third, Dirk is going to get a rusty sword if he does that.

As Dirk stirs the water, with little bits of ice in it, a hot wind suddenly blows from the south. There is some swearing at the market as people debate how quickly they need to pack up *this time*.

Dirk growls at the wind. "You bastards took my hand. I don't have much left so f you."

Amy pauses, as the hot breeze blows, turning to look down the hill. "Again?" she asks, sounding somewhat bewildered. "What is it you want from us anyway?"

Danielle is sorta mumbling to herself for a moment and so it takes a beat until she notices dirk's activity with the sword "Hey you might not want to do..Tha-" and then the wind "oh shit"

The wind only answers Dirl by picking up; sand blows too. It's a three-pronged attack, like a fork jabbing at Dirk with the centre tine. The other winds might well blow past him.

(Nearby, Garin's window opens and she leans out, looking - she is on watch, but does not seem to want to get closer.)

Dirk turns with his sword and laughs. He cuts at the center time.

Amy turns to look at the sand and she grumbles. "And I was in such a good mood too!" There's a half growl, but it's half hearted. She heads over towards the fountain, a bit more, but stops, watching as Dirk cuts at the ... wind?

The wind does part; Dirk's sword slashes through it and for a brief moment all of the sand in the part he has cut off is still, and begins to fall. Then more arrives - that's the thing with wind. It blows about a lot.

Danielle of course switched her attention back to the fountain as it started acting and she watches Dirk with curiosity "Do you sense something?" she asks the man swinging the sword

The fountain continues to spout, with the dolphin doing its perky work.

Amy eyes the wind that stops as Dirk slices at it, with some curiosity. "How odd," she opines, curiously. Now she looks to see if she can spy anything in the wind? Anything invisible or magical.

The wind swirls, circling Dirk now, with the two outer parts wrapping around.

Amethyst rolls with advantage 1 at difficulty 20, using occult, pattern meditation.
The result is a success.

Dirk closes his eyes and starts to spin around in place.

The wind can get nowhere near to Dirk, as long as the sword is there, although there's not much magic to it. It looks like he's disrupting the basic spell, which keeps on falling apart and reforming. That's the problem right there, though - it's reforming every time it's broken. It's patient, and it's not losing energy.

To Dirk, inside the circle of hot wind, it feels like his skin is being tickled by sand, nothing more.

Thoughtfully, Amy watches what is going on, and then she comes to a snap decision. The petite blonde pushes away from the fountain, moving to go stand in the wind in front of Dirk. "Will you leave him alone?" she calls out sharply.

The wind pushes at Amy too, now. Sand in her hair, sand in her eyes - it's not much at first, save an annoyance.

Danielle continues to watch the odd spar with the wind. Was it simply dik's proximity to the fountain. That sparked a reaction? She waits for the results of amy's interventon

Danielle can clearly see the greater powers here - this wind says 'old' and 'age' and 'time-worn' in the same way that the pattern says 'PATTERN'. The wind just is all of those things.

The annoying sand is of course that, and Amy's irritation rises. "Learn to talk to us, instead of just irritating us." Amy calls, getting a couple grains of sand in her mouth, so she has to spit them out. "Argh!" There is a rising sense of ire about the healer though.

The sand trickles down on Dirk, gets in Amethyst's ears, drifts slowly on the edge of the breeze to the water, and drops in.

Danielle hms "I'm not sure it's sentient but it might be. it's definitely responsive and reactive as the fog is, as the pattern is but those things don't speak perse

Amy shakes her head and growls. "Seriously, what do you want?" she shouts. There's an odd sort of echo about her voice - like she's maybe on edge.

The wind blows on, just... annoying.

Dirk spits on the ground "Fucking sand."

Amethyst rolls with advantage 1 at difficulty 10, using occult, dragonform.
The result is a failure.

As Dirk speaks, more of the sand makes merry with him - he can smell sand, taste sand. It's creeping into his ears.

Dirk looks over and does something drastic. He jumps into the fountain to duck under the water. He doesn't look happy about it.

As the sand continues to try to invade ears and hair and tickle skin, Amy outright roars. It's an unexpectedly loud sound, especially from such a small being. A small patch of purple shows on one wrist.

The wind blows over the fountain, dropping sand in, and then Amy's roar definitely disrupts it - there is a shudder and much of the sand drops in the nearby area. To Danielle's sight, there is a twist, a new form of power that she has not seen, which is born and swiftly dies. And then there's the wind again, now smaller, with less sand, but still swirling.

Danielle tighten her own body language, as she focuses on Amy "What was that? What did you do? Are you alright? It definitely didn't care for that"

Dirk pokes his head out of the water. "Dragons... why did it have to be dragons?"

The wind changes, picks up, swirls harder and faster now - it's a small whirlwind, no more. It abandons the fountain, and instead heads straight for the way it came - via Amy, who is in the way.

Amy looks over at Danielle, and shrugs. "I told it to go away?" is her response. At least that's what she did in her head. She rubs at her wrist though, the patch of purple slowly starting to fade. And then there's a whirlwind, heading directly at her but she's looking at Danielle and her wrist and not noticing it really.

Amy gives Dirk a glare, though she's not really got her heart in it.

That, of course, gives her plenty of time to see the whirlwind - just as it yaws, opens, and engulfs her.

Once more, Danielle gets the sense of age, of sand and time and distance.

Dirk ducks under the water.

Amy gets engulfed by a whirlwind! EEEKKK! "Hey, let me go!" can be heard, and there's a couple of pins and hair elastics going flying every which way.

Down in the fountain, the sand on the bottom seems inert.

Danielle nods as she notes the oncoming sandstorm, gasping a bit at the unexpected turn yet waiting to see how amy fares before jumping in

The whirlwind continues on its way, with Amethyst within - presumably. No doubt she still exists. It would be hard to just destroy someone like that, right?

A hairpin tinkles on the floor.

Dirk puts his hand on the ring he wears on his neck and concentrates on "Let go of her you (mfrs)

Dirk rolls with advantage 0 at difficulty 15, using no talents or gifts and spending will.
The result is a success.

The wind wavers, stops, and then lifts into the air, dropping Amy - upside-down - before it dissipates and dies.

Danielle blinks but rushes to catch the falling woman

No chance - Amethyst hits the ground. It's not hard enough to kill, but it's hard enough to warrant getting her to hospital. She's not conscious.
