Improving the Flow

Filinia mentioned to Amy that the fountain in the lower city likely got water from a tank higher up, and there's probably a kink in the pipe or something up there. As Filinia would like the water turned off for an hour or so, Amy offered to get a group together to try to go find the tank and figure out how to stop the water ...

A fine day in the lower city. Amy is standing by the fountain that Filinia has been working on fixing, hands on her hips, staring at the fountain. She walks around the fountain, looking at the edges of it, a thoughtful look on her face. She's asked for a few folks to meet her here, and she is waiting, but she's also trying to figure out - something.

"Uh-oh. I know that expression. There is a mystery afoot. I'm going to end up confused and wanting to smash something but probably can't." Gavin says as he ambles over to stand next ot the fountain. "It's just a fountain right? Have you thrown in any coins to make a wish?"

Kynan appears, walking down the street carrying a large bucket. His gait is somewhat unsteady, but come to think of it, he does seem to walk somewhat oddly... Every now and then a little of what's in the bucket sloshes over the side, and it seems to be some sort of milky liquid. He gets to the place that Danielle and he were talking the other day, but then he looks up towards the sky, and the rain that is falling from it. He sighs, "Now, this is not going to do, at all." He puts the bucket down and noticing Amy and the others, heads towards her.

Amy looks up, the rain coming down in streams, and she shrugs a bit. Then she grins at Gavin's arrival. "It is just a fountain, yes," she says. "Filinia has been trying to fix it, but she's hit a snag." She raises a hand to wave to Kynan, as he arrives and smiles at him. "What's not going to do?" she asks curiously.

Gavin looks to Kynan and offers a nod in greeting. Then he looks at Amy giving her a smile. "So are we here to fix the fountain or is there something else?"

Kynan says, "This rain. Ruins the artwork. I guess it will have to wait for another day, or maybe after dinner." He turns to Gavin, then Amy. "Does the fountain need fixing?"

Gavin, Kynan and Amy are by the fountain that Filinia has been working on trying to fix. Amy looks at a curl that tries to fall into her eyes, and blows air at it, but with the rain, it doesn't move off her forehead. She half scowls at it. To Kynan, "I suspect that if you wait until after dinner, the weather will have changed twice."

"Gavin, have I Mentioned I love you?" she asks, with amusement showing. "Filinia asked if we could go up into the city to find the tank that should be there to store water, and stop the water flow temporarily so she can fix the problem down here - there's a bent pipe or something. She told me all about it, but - honestly, I forgot half of what she said."

Kynan says to Amy, "Then perhaps with dessert, third time is the charm. Besides, who would not want to wait for dessert?" He peers at the fountain. "There was a time when this might have been a simple task, but in any case, how are we to tell which is the proper tank?"

Danielle comes down in the vacinity of the fountain "Progress?" she queries

Gavin beams at Amy telling him that she loves him. "Not often enough." He looks at her as she starts talking about tanks and valves. All this stuff. "This seems complicated. Filinia is leaving this to us? Also WHERE do we get a proper tank?" He adds to Kynan's question.

Kyrie passes this way often enough, on her way here or there. There are familiar faces there at the moment though, so her path shifts towards the fountain. "Howdy." she says to them, tugging at the brim of her hat. It seems to at least be keeping the rain off her face.

Amy stops and stares wide eyed at Kynan. "Uhm," she says first. "I don't know exactly," she admits. "But how hard can it be. Actually, do you remember the little gang here who were working on this fountain? They went up that way to fix it, and they never came back." She waves to Danielle and then Kyrie. "Ladies, come with us. Filinia has discovered that there's a pipe under this fountain that is bent. she says she can fix it, but we have to do two things - one go figure out where the tank is that feeds this fountain and stop the water flow, cause she can't fix it while there's water splishsplashing everywhere. Something about she needs a fire - my eyes glazed over when she was explaining it. And then the second thing - there is some sort of blockage somewhere, so we're hoping to find it." She shrugs and says, "If we can accomplish one or both of those things that would be great. Shall we? I don't know, is there a way to figure out where hte fountain's pipes go?"

Kynan says, "To see where the pipes go is relatively simple. I could probably cause an explosion here..." He points towards the side of the fountain. "And then every few feet. We just have to follow the debris."

Danielle blinks . He seemed a little off before but.."Did you by any chance no someone by the name of Brand?...The fountain will not not function when reduced to rubbble. The notion is to eventually get it functioning properly again, you see"

Gavin looks at Kynan and Amy a bit like this is a dubious process. "Don't we have Engineers or sappers to do this? I was never an expert in engineering. Latrine digging was the extent I had when I was a squire." He waves to Danielle and Kyrie as they arrive.

Kyrie starts to say something, then Kynan speaks and she just pauses. Her mouth is slightly open, and stays that way for a long moment. Maybe she's trying to figure out if he's serious, not knowing the man. Finally, her forehead furrows slightly, and she manages to move on. "Anyway... " After another pause, she notes "If we can access the planning office for the city yet, the map of the pipes should be there, no? They'd have one for when repairs are needed. Should be in the city hall, if it's anything like my home. Could be in the palace, I guess. It would also show any other shut-off valves along the way, I'd think." The practical one, she.

Amy does eventually shut her mouth. She blinks and then she chuckles. "I am quite sure that would work, Kynan, but as Danielle said, it wouldn't make it easy to repair the fountain." She looks at Gavin, and then at the others. "Honestly? I think we're looking for the upterritory unicorn cult folks. Because they probably are guarding the tank." Well, it's a leap of logic and faith, yes. Probably one that only a child of Random ... or her sister ... could make work. "I haven't seen any such place, have you? The records and all, I mean."

Kynan says "It would not be completely rubble. Just rubble here and there. Pockets of rubble, really." He turns to Danielle. "Why yes, Brand is my..." He pauses in thought. "Uncle? Half-uncle once removed? No, that is for cousins." He starts tracing out lines on the ground. "Hmm, father, Clarissa, Brand, oh, but different fathers..." His voice trails off in a mutter.

\ "Don't you mean mothers?" Gavin nods at the mention of family ties. Then carefully scratches his chin, "If there's Cult of the Unicorn people to fight. Perhaps you will save your exploding for them. That will be better than destroying the streets and the pipes."

Danielle nods "Right then. Yes we have no shortage of enemies that might render explosives necessary. As it is, we may have to battle fog to find the plans. Should we check the palace"

One of Kyrie's hands rests in her coat pocket, and the other comfortably on the hilt of her sword as she listens to the others. "There are probably plenty of people who access the water in other places. Also, no need to fight any cult members, with me around." She gives a faint smirk and a roll of her eyes.

"You say that, but the cult folks who were following you, they seem to have vanished," Amy puts in. "I'm not sure if it's the same unicorn cult or not." She considers for a moment. "I don't think we have to go as far as the palace, though if you want to look if there's any pipe maps there, we can try that too? I just - want to see if that gang is there, since the other folks were saying that the tank was in their territory." She starts walking, heading more or less north.

Kynan start to follow Amy. "Both approaches seem somewhat tedious. Rubble vs. Corpses. The game of the century." As his staff taps the ground--in an not regular beat, by the way--he says, "If anyone had really good hearing, or perhaps touch, banging on the pipes might offer a direction, for a time at least. Maybe point the way to your cult. Come to think of it, have you met a cult of the spider? Perhaps the same as the Unicorn, just with double the legs."

Kynan gets another look as he brings up Rubble vs. Corpses." He smirks, "It sounds more like an excuse to go invade one of the gangs territory." He says walking next to Amy with his hand resting on the pomel of his sword.

Kyrie hms quietly, then makes to follow the others. Apparently, she has no other pressing plans. "It's true that if we bang on the pipe it will give us a direction. Then we just make holes periodically, and hit the pipe again. "Or, of course, just go see the cultists. Anyone have some white paint?"

Danielle hms "Right. let's go see if we can find them then?

Amy simply starts walking, with a shrug to the questions she doesn't have answers for. The rain is easing off, the streets starting to dry. Meanwhile, Amy simply walks, like she owns the city. She turns into an alleyway, and then crosses a small court.

Kynan stops abruptly, and looks off to the side. "Something wicked this way comes. Or goes. Maybe not wicked either, perhaps. But there is power there, and power corrupts. Just maybe not always." He points with his staff vaguely to the northeast.

As they make their way north east. "There is tracks of mud and spots of blood." Gavin says as they walk. He points at the various places as they go along.

Kyrie mms quietly, and nods as Gavin draws attention to the blood and mud. She saw it too, apparently. "Looks pretty fresh. Won't be around long with the rain, though."

Danielle assuming the others direction is consistent with what her sensations are telling her, she'll follow "there may be trouble ahead " she warns softly, puzzling "as for power if you're aware of that potential you can guard against. when others have power having some yourself acheives balance

Even when it's pointed out, Amy rather misses the signs of ... well, just about everything other than the rain. She glances as the others talk and point things out, and that gets a blink. She doesn't seem the sort to worry about anything, as odd as that is, given she also doesn't seem to be good at fighting. The signs lead them along to another alley, but that alley ends in a deadend. There's a pile of boxes by the wall, next to a puddle of water.

For those who succeed in their rolls, the puddle is actually increasing in size, but it's not raining.

Kynan crouches down by one of the spots of blood. He touches it with his gloved fingers, then sniffs it. "Not sure what it is. Blood does not seem to be acidic though. I think."

"Somebody has camaflouged this portal with the boxes." Gavin says pointing out the hole just sticking out from the edge of the crate. Then he moves to start well moving the boxes.

Kyrie continues with the others, looking interested. Her hand on her sword is a little more ready than when it's just resting there.

Danielle hms "The magic is coming from up there" she points to a second story window with fog coalescing about it "Can we find an entrance on this level and make our way up"

Amy looks up, and then she looks at the hole that Gavin has found. "Did anyone else notice that it seems like this building is leaking water?" she asks, curiously. She looks up to the fog, and then to the hole, and then she says, "Well - I guess if we go in here, we might see what is going on?"

Kynan looks up towards the window. "Yes, there is definitely something with power there." He looks at the puddle, then Amy. "Would it be too much to ask that our fountain's source is there too? Kill two birds with one stone. Or maybe another wyvern."

"I did not notice the buildign was leakign water." He looks at the now uncovered hole. "The only way I'm seeing in is actually going down the hole. Then see if we can find some stairs going down.

Kyrie hmms again. "Maybe there's a burst pipe in there? I mean, as things get more awake around here, stuff that just kind of worked automatically doesn't so much, right?"

Danielle hms "A wyvern would be interestng but I suppose I shouldn't invite attack. In we go it would seen

"It was only half a wyvern, as I recall," Amy says drily. "And I didn't poke it." Ahem. She helps with one of the boxes, and steps out of the way to let folks lead the way in.

once the boxes are out of the way, there is a piece of rope, that can be sort of used to get down to the bottom. It's dark and dank, and the sound of water trickling is impossible to avoid.
